In March 2013 Markus Schirmer performed the rarely played „second piano concerto“ called CASTELLI ROMANI by Joseph Marx at Vienna Musikverein together with Vienna Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Fabio Luisi. Read an article published in the Musikverein magazine about this special work, the composer and Markus Schirmers ideas and thoughts when playing this music (in german!) :

Austrian newspaper DIE PRESSE wrote about this event:
…Fabio Luisi had put a rarity on the programme for this concert: Joseph Marx’s piano concerto “Castelli Romani”, with Markus Schirmer as soloist. The first bars make it clear what the work calls for: an uninhibited outpouring of feeling and emotion. This mighty flow of late romantic exaltation, however, is regularly modified and interrupted with impressionistic sound painting that initially seems somewhat out of place.
These passages are principally entrusted to the soloist, and Schirmer played them with
a magical lightness of touch, positively caressing the music out into the listening space…
